CREATING PERSONAL SYMBOLS AND ICONS
Date: June 4th through 7th
Times: 9:30 to 3:30 each day
Cost: $ 275.00 plus $ 25.00 materials fee

Ages: 11 to 18
Snacks: Healthy snacks will be provided

Throughout history, each generation has been represented by Symbols and Icons which mark time. From religious and cultural symbols to clothing lines and sports teams, to electronics and engineering… Symbols and Icons tell a story.
When we see a Peace sign, a Nike symbol, a graphic of an apple with a bite taken out of it, a red, white and blue flag with stars and stripes, a torch affiliated with five interlocking rings, a stop sign, The Statue of Liberty, a pink ribbon, a gold band on someone’s left hand… most of us can immediately say what these symbols represent.
Participants will work together photographing places and objects which speak to them. We will have group adventures exploring imagery in nature, discovering ways of making
photographs which express a certain idea, thought or feeling, and later looking at how to turn the photographs into something yet unseen.
With thoughtful guidance from Katy and Reece, along with team support, each participant will create at least one Icon which symbolizes a part of who they are. Incorporated into the adventure is a photographic transfer process in which the final symbol or icon will be transferred onto either a board or a sheet of glass. From there, various art materials will be introduced to embellish the icons.
By the end of the fourth day friendships will have been made, creativity will abound, new skills will have been experienced, and new Symbols and Icons will make their mark in the world.
Space is limited to 10 Tweens/Teens.
